Rob Surgical has announced the appointment of Samuel Olivares as the company’s new Commercial Director. Samuel brings over 20 years of experience in the medical device sector and a substantial track record across various projects.
Throughout his career, Samuel has been a driving force behind innovative initiatives, such as establishing the Neurosurgery Unit at B. Braun in Spain, which he led for 10 years, and developing the Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) business within the same group, consolidating it over 17 years.
He also led the expansion of Minimally Invasive Surgery in Latin America, demonstrating his global vision and passion for advancing surgical technology into new territories. An expert in robotic surgery (#RAS) and minimally invasive robotic surgery (#MIRS), as well as knowledgeable about the latest trends in AI applied to surgery, he holds an MBA from IE Business School along with other prestigious credentials.
Samuel expressed: “We are beginning an exciting new chapter, reinforcing our commitment to advancing global access to precision surgery, focusing on equipping our clients with the latest technological advancements, allowing a greater number of patients to benefit from these innovations.”
“Samuel is here to help us universalize the benefits of precision surgery. His experience, vision, and strategic insight will contribute to implementing Rob Surgical’s proposal in the field of robotic surgery,” says Jaume Amat, CEO of Rob Surgical.
Moving Forward with Determination
The new Commercial Director joins at a crucial time for Rob Surgical. The company’s value proposition is based on three pillars: high precision and safety benefiting the patient, superior usability for the surgeon, and a significant reduction in total cost per surgery that benefits hospitals, as it does not require a dedicated operating room, requires less staff, no prior training, and supports hybrid surgeries.
The company is awaiting CE mark accreditation, which will allow it to begin manufacturing and commercialization in Europe. Since May 2023, it has been successfully operating on patients at Hospital Clínic de Barcelona.
The company proposes a business model capable of intensifying the use of robotic surgery. Currently, the cost and complexity of robots limit operations to an adapted operating room, under the direction of a specialized surgeon, making the process costly, limited, and accessible to only a few.
Rob Surgical, in contrast, aims to maximize the number of surgeries performed, helping all citizens access the benefits of high-precision surgery. With this premise, they have designed a robot adaptable to any operating room, with usability accessible to any surgeon with minimal training. Rob Surgical has managed to create a lightweight, ergonomic, and portable surgical platform, allowing transport between different operating rooms or hospitals, opening the door for high-precision surgery to reach all patients, surgeons, and healthcare centers.
